Thasiama Seno Neihna

Near Chawngtui Village, Champhai District

Thasiama Seno Neihna, located near Chawngtui Village in Champhai District, is a culturally significant site associated with one of the well-known legends of Mizo folklore. The site consists of a small but steep hillock, which has gained importance due to its association with the legendary figure Thasiama.

According to local legend, Thasiama Seno Neihna is the place where the mithun (gayal) belonging to Thasiama is believed to have given birth. The birth is said to have occurred at the very summit of the steep hillock, a location considered almost impossible for human beings to reach due to its difficult terrain.

The legend of Thasiama is closely connected with a supernatural being known as Pheichham, described in Mizo folklore as a one-legged goblin or spirit figure. According to the traditional story, Thasiama received a boon from Pheichham, who granted him the opportunity to make wishes. As a result, Thasiama became wealthy and prosperous and was believed to have enjoyed a long life. However, he failed to express one important desire at the appropriate moment — the wish for a child — and consequently remained without offspring.

Although no archaeological evidence has yet established the historical basis of the legend, the physical features of the hillock have become inseparably linked with the legendary events associated with Thasiama, transforming the site into a place of cultural memory.
