Thasiama Nghaleng Khawina & Lungkhawsa

Near Vaphai Village, Champhai District

Thasiama Nghaleng Khawina and Lungkhawsa, located near Vaphai Village in Champhai District, are important cultural heritage features that represent the close relationship between natural landscapes, traditional beliefs, and indigenous craftsmanship.

Thasiama Nghaleng Khawina consists of a small water pool carved out of a solid rock surface. The depression in the rock naturally collects rainwater. Although the site is associated primarily with local mythology and oral traditions, the physical evidence of human intervention indicates that the pool was intentionally created or modified by earlier inhabitants.

According to local legend, the rock-cut pool was associated with Thasiama, a celebrated figure in Mizo folklore. Traditional accounts state that Thasiama used this pool for keeping fish.

At the northern corner of Vaphai, a natural wonder of rock called Lungkhawsa is found. It is locally proclaimed that the site was used as a sacrificial place by the earlier settlers, where they used to offer swine to the spirits. Together, these locations form part of the historical landscape of Vaphai.
