Lungphunlian

Lungphunlian, Champhai District

The village of Lungphunlian, located in Champhai District, is home to an impressive group of megalithic monuments. The site comprises eight large standing stones (menhirs), arranged at intervals of approximately 80 feet from one another. Their orderly placement suggests deliberate planning and indicates that the monuments may have formed part of a larger ceremonial, commemorative, or ritual landscape.

Among the group, the largest menhir is particularly remarkable for its imposing dimensions, standing approximately 14 feet in height and measuring about 12 feet in breadth. The sheer size of this monument reflects the considerable effort, technical skill, and communal labour required for its erection.

Although the precise origin, age, and function of the Lungphunlian megaliths remain uncertain, local traditions have long regarded the stones as landmarks of cultural and historical significance.
