Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang

Dungtlang Village, approximately 62 km from Champhai Town

Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang is one of the most renowned cultural and heritage landmarks in Mizoram, situated at Dungtlang Village, approximately 62 kilometres from Champhai Town. The site is distinguished by a remarkable elongated rock formation that projects dramatically over a steep and precipitous cliff.

The name is inseparably linked with the legendary story of Lianchhiari, the beautiful daughter of a village chief. According to the legend, Lianchhiari was deeply in love with Chawngfianga, a young man who resided on the opposite side of the mountain. Owing to geographical separation and social circumstances that prevented their union, Lianchhiari is said to have regularly climbed onto the projecting rock to catch a glimpse of her beloved across the valley. The tale of their unfulfilled love has become one of the most enduring romantic narratives in Mizo folklore.

The site forms part of the broader cultural landscape of Dungtlang, an area known for its early settlements and archaeological remains. Recognising its outstanding cultural, historical, and heritage significance, Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang has been officially declared a State Protected Monument under the Mizoram Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 2001.
