Lamsial Puk
Farkawn Village, Champhai District
Lamsial Puk, located at Farkawn Village in Champhai District, is a significant natural cave site renowned for the discovery of a large collection of human skeletal remains deposited within its interior, making it one of the notable archaeological sites associated with ancient mortuary practices in Mizoram.
The exact circumstances surrounding the deposition of the human remains remain uncertain. While it is evident that the cave was used as a place for depositing human bones, several interpretations have been suggested, including use as a secondary burial site, a communal repository for ancestral remains, or a place associated with specific traditional funerary practices. Further archaeological and anthropological research is necessary to determine the cultural context.
A significant milestone in the study of Lamsial Puk was the scientific examination of one of the human bone samples through Carbon-14 (radiocarbon) dating. The analysis established that the human remains date approximately between 1729 and 1789 AD.
Due to its unique archaeological features and historical significance, Lamsial Puk has become an important heritage attraction, receiving visitors from within the country as well as from abroad.
