Farpuk
Farkawn Village, Champhai District
Farpuk, located at Farkawn Village in Champhai District, is a significant natural heritage site consisting of a naturally formed cave with a perennial water source that has continued to flow reliably over generations. This unfailing supply of water is considered one of the most remarkable features of the cave.
According to local historical traditions, Farpuk served as a place of refuge and shelter for the descendants of Tuaka during a period of conflict when they were under siege by their rival Sailo brothers. The availability of a continuous water source within the cave is believed to have enabled the occupants to sustain themselves during the confrontation.
Beyond its association with historical events, Farpuk reflects the close relationship between natural landscapes and human settlement patterns in the region. The unique geological formations, the presence of a permanent water source, and the surrounding landscape make it an exceptional example of the natural heritage of Mizoram.
